Summary of the 50th Anniversary of MLK’s ‘I Have a Dream’ Speech” by President Barack Obama
In 2013, President Barack Obama gave a speech that was presented across the nation to address Martin Luther King Junior's "I Have a Dream" speech that was given 50 years previously. President Obama opens up by addressing the King family, former presidents, and Americans whom inspired and sacrificed what they had to maintain equal rights. Sir Obama speaks of the fact that persistence in the march for equality is what helped in the changing of America. Mr. President then addresses that the promises that were made through man being created equal, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness has remained unmet and fallen short of the requirements that were stated. Towards the end of his speech, Mr. Obama speaks of how history shows the mistakes that were made and how we, as a nation, decided our fate. As he closes, Mr. President says that we can "all stand together...not against..." to continue marching and dream better for not just ourselves, but for our family, neighbors, loved ones and coworkers. Then to know that the lessons of our past, is the promise of tomorrow; where we can face the impossible odds and for those who love their country, can change it.
